CORE Environmental Consultants, Inc. was retained by an environmental engineering prime consultant to perform a comprehensive hazardous materials survey in support of the planned renovation of the Lt. Lia Playground Comfort Station in Staten Island. The work was conducted under contract with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation to guide abatement planning and ensure regulatory compliance prior to demolition and construction activities.

Asbestos Survey

CORE conducted a comprehensive asbestos survey of the comfort station, sampling building materials for laboratory analysis to confirm the presence or absence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). Identified ACMs were documented in detail to assist with abatement planning.

“CORE’s timely reporting and thorough documentation enabled us to move forward with design while ensuring worker safety and regulatory compliance.”

Lead-Based Paint Inspection

Using EPA-approved protocols, CORE tested painted surfaces throughout the facility to identify lead-based paint hazards. Results supported lead-safe renovation procedures and worker protection planning during construction.

PCB and Universal Waste Inventory

CORE also assessed the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in caulking and light ballasts and inventoried universal waste such as fluorescent bulbs and batteries. Findings were documented for safe removal and regulatory-compliant disposal during renovation activities.
