Environmental Field Sampling & Laboratory Testing Services

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) hired CORE to complete sampling and analysis at the Authority’s Charles Poletti/500 MW Richard M. Flynn Power plant and the Small Clean Power Plants sites (SCPP), located in Astoria, Long Island City, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Holtsville, and West Brentwood, NY. CORE provides State Pollution Discharge Elimination System (SPDES), Major Oil Storage Facility (MOSF), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) metals sampling services at the facilities as part of on-going environmental compliance programs. CORE provides groundwater, surface water, and waste sampling services on a scheduled basis, and submits all samples to a New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP)- certified laboratory for analysis. CORE’s technicians have developed an efficient travel route to access the appropriate sites on sampling days to maximize site time and limit traffic delays. We utilize a number of state- of-the-art and standardized sampling techniques to gather representative samples. We complete site-specific sampling forms and appropriate Chain-of-Custody documentation. CORE completes hazardous waste classification sample collection for various waste types in compliance with guidelines set forth by Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Parts 260 and 261 (40 CFR 260-261) and Title 6 of the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Part 371 (6 NYCRR 371). Samples are analyzed for characteristics of ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, toxicity, paint filter test, percent solids, Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) extraction for metals, percent liquids, total organic carbon, British Thermal Unit (BTU) content, total organic halogen content (TOX), and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) levels.
