CORE Environmental Consultants provides geotechnical and environmental drilling services to support site investigation, foundation engineering, environmental sampling, and remedial design. Our drilling oversight services are coordinated with licensed drilling subcontractors and carried out under the direction of qualified engineers and scientists to ensure accurate, regulatory-compliant results for a range of project types.

From deep borings and monitoring wells to test pits and Shelby tube sampling, CORE collects critical subsurface data to inform development, contamination assessments, and structural design decisions.

Where Are Geotechnical and Environmental Drilling Services Needed?

Drilling is a fundamental part of:

  • Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Remedial Investigations and Site Characterization
  • Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) enrollment and design
  • Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and soil stratigraphy verification
  • Geotechnical design for foundations, retaining walls, and structures
  • Groundwater monitoring well installation
  • Soil gas and vapor intrusion pathway evaluations

CORE provides turnkey coordination of drilling events, including health & safety protocols, drilling oversight, and sample handling.

CORE’s Geotechnical and Environmental Drilling Support Services

We coordinate and manage all aspects of subsurface drilling and sampling, including:

  • Soil borings using hollow-stem auger, rotary, or direct-push (Geoprobe®) methods
  • Rock coring using diamond drill bits and wireline systems
  • Split spoon and Shelby tube sampling
  • Standard Penetration Tests (SPTs)
  • Installation of temporary and permanent groundwater monitoring wells
  • Sub-slab vapor probe and soil gas point installation
  • Test pits and trenching for shallow subsurface investigations
  • Field logging, geotechnical classification, and sample preservation
  • Grouting, sealing, and abandonment per NYSDEC standards

We can support any phase of your investigation—from pre-construction to post-remediation confirmation.

Our Process

  1. Project Scoping and Drilling Plan Development
CORE prepares a detailed drilling plan, including boring locations, depths, sampling intervals, and required methods based on site objectives, soil conditions, and known contaminants.
  2. Permitting and Utility Clearance
We handle NYC DOB filings, NYSDEC well installation notifications, and utility mark-outs (e.g., Dig Safely NY).
  3. Geotechnical and Environmental Drilling Oversight and Field Logging
CORE scientists log boreholes in accordance with ASTM and USCS soil classification systems. Samples are labeled, preserved, and prepared for chemical or geotechnical analysis at accredited labs.
  4. Monitoring Well Installation
For groundwater or vapor monitoring, we install wells per DER-10, NYSDEC TAGM 4003, or site-specific requirements. We develop the wells, record static water levels, and provide well construction logs.
  5. Data Interpretation and Reporting
We prepare boring logs, soil profiles, groundwater flow evaluations, and sample summary tables to support environmental reports, design packages, and permit applications.

Compliance and Documentation

CORE drilling services are performed under full regulatory compliance with:

  • NYSDEC DER-10
  • ASTM D1586, D1587, D2487, D2488 standards
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER) protocols
  • Local health department and DOB permitting rules
  • BCP, Superfund, and E-designation guidance

All logs, field notes, and chain-of-custody forms are maintained for defensibility and submittal.

Our Environmental Engineering & Design Services.

Remediation System Design

CORE designs custom remediation systems to treat contaminated soil, groundwater, and vapor across a wide range of site conditions. Our designs incorporate technologies such as soil vapor extraction (SVE), pump-and-treat systems, in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), air sparging, and dual-phase extraction—delivered with full construction documentation, system layout, and regulatory alignment for effective long-term performance.

Fuel Storage & Delivery System Engineering

CORE engineers fuel storage and delivery systems for heating, generator support, and vehicle operations. Our services include AST/UST selection, piping layout, pump and control system integration, containment design, and permitting support. We design code-compliant systems that meet NYSDEC PBS regulations, NFPA standards, and site-specific operational requirements.

Green Infrastructure & Stormwater Management

CORE develops green infrastructure and stormwater management designs that reduce runoff, support infiltration, and enhance sustainability. We integrate bioswales, rain gardens, permeable pavements, detention basins, and hydrologic modeling into site plans to meet SPDES permit conditions, mitigate erosion, and promote regulatory compliance.

Erosion and Sediment Control Plans

CORE prepares Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Plans to protect soil and water resources during construction and earthwork activities. Our plans include grading limits, silt fencing, inlet protection, sequencing, and inspection schedules—compliant with NYSDEC General Permit requirements and municipal stormwater standards.

Geotechnical and Environmental Drilling

CORE provides drilling oversight and coordination for geotechnical and environmental investigations, including soil borings, monitoring well installations, and subsurface sampling. We support field programs with licensed drillers, ASTM-compliant procedures, and real-time data tracking to inform foundation design, contamination assessment, and remediation planning.
