HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SURVEY

CORE Environmental Consultants, Inc. served as a subconsultant to NV5 to perform a hazardous materials survey at the Lt. Lia Playground Comfort Station in Staten Island, New York. The project involved surveying the existing comfort station to support its renovation design and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. CORE’s work included a thorough inspection for asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and universal waste.

As part of the asbestos survey, building materials were sampled and analyzed to determine the presence of asbestos, while lead-based paint testing was conducted to identify potential risks during construction. PCB sampling focused on materials such as caulking and light ballasts, and universal waste items, including fluorescent bulbs and batteries, were cataloged for proper disposal.

CORE provided NV5 with a comprehensive report detailing the locations and quantities of hazardous materials, laboratory results, and recommendations for safe handling and removal. This information allowed the renovation design team to address environmental hazards effectively, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and protecting workers and the public during construction. Through careful planning and coordination, CORE’s work supported the successful progression of the project while minimizing environmental and health risks.
