Petroleum Bulk Storage & Dispensing Design

CORE was selected by Mendon Truck Leasing (Mendon) to complete designs for an aboveground diesel storage tank, attendant kiosk and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) dispensing systems at their 362 Kingsland Avenue location in Brooklyn, New York. The project included a pre-design Site inspection, assessment of the facility’s diesel needs, preparation of engineering designs and soliciting bidders for construction. Initially CORE designed and assisted Mendon with installing a temporary 1,000 gallon aboveground tank at the site to meet temporary needs. CORE then worked with Mendon to determine long-term needs and prepare a design fitting to those needs. CORE performed reviews of both New York City (NYC) Codes and Regulations and NYC Department of Buildings (NYCDOB) regulations regarding Petroleum Bulk Storage, diesel exhaust fluid, and flood zones. Best Management Practices (BMPs) consistent with industry-developed practices were employed to develop a comprehensive site-specific solution. The design included the following:

  • NYC UL 2085-approved aboveground 2,000 gallon storage tank
  • New 500 gallon DEF dispensing system
  • NYC Codes and Regulation notes for construction, fuel systems, and diesel exhaust fluid systems
  • Overfill and leak detection system and electrical systems details
In addition to the system design, CORE provided bid specifications and drawings for Mendon to utilize in bid procurement. Successful bid specifications and drawings required continued interaction with both Mendon and the NYCDOB to ensure all necessary requirements were met.
